The Gift of Giving

“Only by giving are you able to receive more than you already have.”

With the holidays right around the corner, what are some ways you are giving your time and tokens of love to those around you?

Here are a few ideas for those wanting to give back this holiday season!

  • Participate in your local holiday food and toy drives. Often times these are affiliated with grocery stores, churches and fire departments

  • Serve at local churches or food banks, which often provide warm meals to those in need

  • Collect dog and cat items to drop off at local shelters (PS. they really need blankets to keep the animals warm in the colder months - and you can find them cheap at Dollar Stores or Walmart)

  • Shop small and shop local! Many shops will face tough times as we navigate the challenges of COVID this holiday season.

  • If shopping from sites like Amazon, checkout through AmazonSmile instead! This allows you to select a charity that Amazon will donate a portion of the proceeds to from your purchases. Additionally, many small businesses use Amazon as a selling platform - so keep an eye out for those!

  • Put together necessity bags from your local dollar store for those faced with homelessness. Fill the bags with inexpensive items such as snacks, socks, toothbrushes and other toiletries. These are great to keep in your car to hand out while driving!

Shop Small in Houston! Here’s a list of our favorite local businesses to shop from this holiday season. Whether picking out the perfect gift for the loved ones on your list, or simply purchasing a gift card - no purchase is too small to help these shops thrive!

  • Forth and Nomad

  • Favor the Kind

  • Lemon Laine

  • Kind Collective

  • A 2nd Cup

  • Elijah Rising

  • Space Montrose

  • Manready Mercantile

  • Tre’Sorelle

  • The Floral Culture

  • Wick and Wag

Wishing you all my best this Holiday Season!

Love,

Kaitlyn
